Now to become an annual fixture

Saturday 22nd August 2009 saw the inaugural competition of Castle Cary's 15-a-side tournament. Eight teams were represented, with Castle Cary, Evercreeech, Butleigh, Midsomer Norton, Minehead, Somerton, North Petherton and Ivel Barbarians all making the most of the opportunity to blow out the cobwebs and warm up for the forthcoming season.

After each team had played three games, the semi-finalists were North Petherton v Somerton and Midsomer Norton v Butleigh. Ten tries a-piece were scored in each game: seven each to Midsomer Norton and North Petherton, who battled it out in the final. Midsomer Norton emerged victorious and were the grateful recipients on the £250 cash prize.

The day was a great success with the large crowd of spectators rewarded with some varied and exciting rugby. After the success of the day, the tournament will become an annual event at the Castle Cary ground.
