These were two well-matched sides, both containing experience and youth. Burnham opened the scoring with a penalty kick in front of the posts; they went on to score a try as a result of poor tackling from the Cary side. Cary stuck to their guns, progressing up the pitch to the Burnham 22, from a well-won scrum. They passed out to the three-quarters, giving an ideal opportunity to the inside centre, Ed Buxton to score a try.

Cary started the second half 5-8 down but came back with determination and flair — giving them the upper hand. Their second try came from a skilful ruck in the Burnham 22 with some excellent handling from Matt Knight and James Travers. Simon Hunt finished the effort with a strong charge to the line, scoring a good try.

Simon Hunt's second try came from persistent forward play, as he rolled out of a tackle to score. Ed Buxton converted.

The crowd responded admirably to a good game played well. Steve Armson (non-playing captain) said, "I would like to thank Mike Gardner for standing in as captain on the pitch due to my injury, as well as his playing the unfamiliar position of scrum-half. I'm very proud of the way the team performed today."
