The last League fixture of the season saw Cary producing some excellent rugby. This much-anticipated match started 50/50 with both sides looking to gain an early advantage.

Cary sustained the early pressure and managed to camp inside the home team's 22-yard area. A series of scrums gave Cary the lift they needed, with Tony Reynolds opening the scorecard. Two minutes later the visitors secured a second try with Martin White sniping at the scrummage.

With a clear advantage, Cary kept to their game plan and this opened the floodgates. The forward division produced an excellent platform from which the backs could play. The third try came when Somerton were caught short in defence, and Tom Dampier ran in an excellent winger's touchdown. Benjamin Snook was on brilliant kicking form to convert the tries.

Cary went into the interval with the scores at 28–0. The fourth try was the trademark mauling from thirty yards out. Somerton had no answer to this well-drilled move and Peter Richardson's fourth try in as many games was secured.

Cary continued to dominate the second half. They added a further three touchdowns through Jamie Smith, Shaun Dixon and James Cox. Somerton managed a consolation try with a well-worked move and good support play. Yet this was the only time Cary's defence was really tested.

Cary coach, Jon Thomas, was very pleased to finish the league season with a convincing win: "The boys kept to their game plan and it paid dividends."

With this win, Castle Cary secured fourth place in the League.
