Due to injury, it was left to Cary's captain, Jimmer Atkins, to play out of position at prop against a well drilled Wells pack. Despite this, Cary managed to hold their own.

Wells scored in the first 15 minutes. Cary retaliated by applying more pressure, with some accurate kicking and strong running to try and force a mistake from Wells, but to no avail.

With the start of the second half, Cary continued this tactic. It eventually paid off, with Cary's outside-centre, Alex 'Doc' Leigh scoring under the posts. This brought the score to 10-7 in the hosts' favour.
