A slow start by Cary brought Old Eds into the game from the kick-off. Cary found their feet, applying pressure for long spells and forcing the visitors to defend vigorously. However, with just a few minutes of the first half remaining, Old Edwardians applied their own force, making Cary defend to no avail, with the Old Eds' scrum-half coming down the blind side to score.

After the break the hosts started to get on top of the Old Eds, and pressure from the Cary pack enabled them to release their backs allowing Alex 'Doc' Leigh to score between the posts. Old Eds fought back for short spells only to be turned over by Cary, creating some good chances, some of which were taken and others spoilt.

With ten minutes remaining, Old Eds gave away a penalty, Cary kicked to touch and went for the line-out, with a clean ball off the top feeding Man on the Match, scrum-half Freddie Loxton.

The closing moments saw another good phase of play from the backs, sealing the victory of this important cup game.
