Castle Cary started very well, putting North Petherton on the backfoot — and it was not long before it paid off. Jason French scored a try which Cary unfortunately failed to convert.

Cary continued to pressure North Petherton which resulted in the hosts giving away a penalty in front of their posts. Guy Clothier stepped up to convert.

North Petherton came back with a runaway try from their young centre. The half-time score was 7–8.

The home side started the second half with a bigger, stronger pack, and — with 20 minutes remaining — they scored three tries.

Steve Armson, Cary captain, said, 'It was a hard but enjoyable game and I was very pleased to be taking a squad of 20 players to an away game.'
