An eagerly anticipated game with both sides giving no quarter. From the kick-off, Old Eds used their pace in the three-quarters to attack the Cary back line, with outstanding defence work from James Cox and Rosco.

After 24 minutes and still no score, Old Eds found a chink in the Cary defensive line, side-stepping Cary's No. 11 to put the ball down just to the left of the post. However the pressure from the home side meant that Old Eds' kicker failed to convert the try.

Cary increased the pressure, resulting in them giving away a penalty 15 meters in and just outside the 22. Old Eds went for the posts but again failed to score. During the half-time break, Cary brought on Jay Berry as a replacement in the centre.

With the start of the second half, both teams increased the tempo. Due to an injury, Cary had to replace their fly-half with Ben Snook. These changes proved vital for Cary, who started to dominate play around the park, with the break coming from Jay Berry who chipped the ball over Old Eds' centre to gather and run it in from 20 meters out to score the try.

This left Cary's kicker with a high-pressure conversion, with which he duly succeeded to put Cary into the lead. For the remaining ten minutes, Cary played a close game. This result puts Cary is through to the third round of the Somerset Vase.
