Castle Cary went away with a squad of 18, having lost another four players to the first team.

The game started with two evenly matched sides. Cary let Avonvale's forwards in to score the first try, which they converted.

Castle Cary came back with a quick penalty by Jason French, who made a blistering run from the half-way line to score a very good individual try between the posts. Guy Clothier stepped up to convert it.

The half-time score was 7–7. During the second half, a well-timed high kick to the corner by Andy Palmer was followed up by Lee Hansford, who scored Cary's second try.

Avonvale threw everything at the Cary team but they defended well and held on for the win.
