This game was played in cold conditions, with a slippy pitch under foot. Both teams started well and worked hard throughout the 40-minute contest.

After a few minutes, Ivel scored the first of their 10 tries (5 converted). Most of their scores were crafted from impressive, strong running and a formidable scrum to which, at times, Cary had no answer.

Despite the score, there were some very positive aspects to the Cary game. Many of the players are now tackling very effectively, with the most notable improvement coming from Jamie Medhurst. Solid games also came from Peter at stand-off, Robbie at hooker and James, after rediscovering his tackling prowess.

All other players acquitted themselves well, but we have some weaknesses in our overall techniques. The main ones to work on will be retention of the ball and securing it from open play (when it is loose on the ground).

There was one Cary player who stood head and shoulders above the rest this week: for his work rate, positive attitude, strong running and tackling. This was Gareth, and he fully deseves the 'Man of the Match' accolade for his efforts this week. Well done Gareth!
