With a lot of injuries to the Cary side it was up to the second team to fill the gaps, which they did with a great deal of courage and commitment.

With typical weather for a March afternoon, it made for a tight game, which Cary dominated in all aspects. But an error in the visitors' handling allowed Saracens to break away and get the first points.

From the restart, Cary piled on the pressure to even the scores. As the rain continued, handling errors were a-plenty from the Cary team — on which the home side capitalised to score two more unanswered tries. This seemed to inspire Cary's pack, and they drove over from a scrum to score.

Again from the restart, Cary secured possession and drove up the pitch, only to be turned over and for Saracens to knock on — giving Cary a good platform from which number eight, Tony Reynolds, managed to score after a scrum. This brought an end to the first half, with the scores level at 15 points each.

From the start of the seond half it was all to play for, with both teams trying to gain valuable League points. Unforced errors in attack from Cary left the defence short, allowing the opposition to score a breakaway try.

This set the tone for the rest of the match, as Saracens took every opportunity to ensure victory, which they did by a margin of ten points.

The Man of the Match was Martin Trott, making his debut as hooker for the 1st Xv Also massive thanks to those from the 2nd XV who stepped up to the plate.
