With Cary and Hornets equally situated in the League table, this game had been eagerly anticipated by both sides.

Hornets were first to put points on the board, with a try scored in the corner from a well-worked backline move within a few minutes of play (unconverted). This woke up the Cary side sufficiently to take the ball through the forwards, enabling Matthew Tom at full-back to score and convert.

Hornets then knew that they were in a competitive game and it wasn't going to be an easy win for them. Cary made the visitors fight for every point. However, Hornets made it hard work for the Cary forwards, turning over balls because a lack of pace resulted in insufficient support at breakdowns. As a result of one of these turnovers, Hornets scored again to regain the lead just before half-time.

After the break, and taking full advantage of the slope, Cary applied pressure to be rewarded with a try for Gareth Watts. With the score at 12–10 Cary had victory in their sights, but Hornets had other ideas and came back to secure a further try, sealing the game at 12–15 despite Cary remaining near to the Hornets' try-line.

Tempers flared during the final phase of the game, producing some careless play from both teams, but overall this was a closely fought battle with plenty of action for both sides. Cary's Man of the Match was prop, Tommy Hemsworth.
