Team coach, Jon Thomas, was satisfied with "an admirable performance" from his Castle Cary team in the second round of the Somerset Vase, which drew a strong crowd of home supporters since the match coincided with the annual Vice Presidents' Dinner.

Despite some confusion at the start of the game, Cary's squad members soon rallied to the task at hand, ably led by Rick 'Marvellous' Gates as captain for the day.

Culverhaysians punished Cary from a cold start, although after regrouping and making a few changes at half-time, the home side upped the ante and took the game to the forwards, which released the hosts' backs to cause problems in Culverhaysians' defensive line. On one such occasion, Lee Harding took the opportunity to touch down, with Matthew Tom adding the conversion.

Jon Thomas was proud of his team's achievements, particularly given that the hosts had been weakened by injury and were missing the presence of both their captain and vice-captain. As Thomas summed up, "Old Culverhaysians are sitting comfortably in the Somerset One league, two divisions above us. The respectable final score is testament to the noble effort made by every member of the Cary team under particularly challenging conditions."

The visitors nominated Castle Cary winger Gareth Watts as Man of the Match.
