On a hot day with painfully hard ground, the more experienced Norton side made the hosts work hard for their tries. The visitors were first to put points on the board, but Cary were quick to reply with great runs from Louise Shardan and Jessica Harrison. Cary maintained their lead for the remainder of the hardly-fought game but the scores remained close in the first twenty of minutes of play.

Half-time changes by coach James Atkins saw forwards Vicky Newberry and Rosie Meek playing out of position in the backs, enabling some quick hands and good runs, and exploiting the pace of wingers Lizzie Longman and Christine Barham.

Cary were not tempted to become nonchalant about their lead and increased the points difference with additional tries from Lizzie Longman, Christine Barham and Jessica Harrison. Louise Shardan achieved a hat-trick and Jess Harrison added a conversion. Woman of the Match was awarded to Emily Oatley, who — along with other newcomers Hayley Cullen and Emma Rawlings — put in a strong debut.
