Guidelines for players and coaches

All participating children must be registered with the RFU and the Club.
 
All adults who come into regular contact with children must be CRB checked.

What is expected of players?

Players will make the best use of coaching time by:

  • Arriving in time to start the sessions at 10:30 am
  • Listening to the coach
  • Doing what the coach asks them to do

Players will respect and behave courteously towards:

  • Their opponents
  • Their coaches
  • Their fellow team members
  • Visitors to the Club
  • Other Club members
  • The referee (and thank him/her after the game)

Players will ensure that they have:

  • Suitable boots
  • Suitable clothing
  • A gum-shield
  • A towel and change of clothing
  • Left the changing room free of mud
  • Not worn their boots in the Clubhouse
Players are responsible for helping to gather up equipment after coaching sessions/matches and helping the coaches to put it away tidily.

The role of the coach

  • To act as a teacher
  • To represent CCRFC and the game of rugby
  • To set standards of behaviour, advise on and promote the ethos of the game
  • To progress through the stages of the RFU's Coaching Certificates
  • To be the point of communication between the players and their parents
  • To represent his/her age group on the committee

The responsibilities of the coach

  • To teach rugby skills and to guide on appropriate behaviour
  • To supervise players from the beginning to the end of the training session
  • To take care of the kit
  • To ensure that first-aid is within easy access before the start of every session
  • To plan the content of each coaching session
  • To set out the training area
  • To supervise players when travelling to and from away matches and to deliver them safely back to CCRFC
  • To welcome visiting teams
  • To respect the children and parents

Personal qualities of a coach

The coach should be:

  • Approachable, friendly, patient and fair
  • Aware of the different needs of each individual player
  • Able to use the right balance of praise and criticism
  • Able to control individual players and groups of players
  • Adequately trained in the skills, rules and techniques of the game

What is expected of parents?

  • Ensuring that their child complies with his/her responsibilities as a player
  • Supporting the Club and the children by being constructive and encouraging
  • Respect the referee, opponents, visitors, coaches and players
  • Supporting the teams on match days
  • To understand that volunteers help run the Club
  • Parents/guardians are strongly advised to remain on the premises throughout

When there is a problem with the Club or its officials

  1. The player or parent should talk with the coach, giving time to investigate and consider the problem or deal with it.
  2. The player or parent should talk directly to the Youth or Club Secretary.

When there is a problem with a player's behaviour

  1. The coach will talk to the player and try to resolve the problem.
  2. In the event that this does not resolve the problem, the coach will talk to the player's parent(s).
